How Much Longer?

Shelly’s comment on the Spring Break post got me thinking about the relationship between these two. Kaiden and Ethan have been friends forever, but they are more like brother and sister than girlfriend/boyfriend. They LOVE to argue, LOVE to compete, but they are tighter than a pair of girl’s jeans on an Emo boy. They are so comfortable with each other, and one minute will be fighting like they might kill each other and a second later you’ll find them sweetly talking to each other like no one else exists in their world.

Just the other day they came down from Ethan’s room, and when I asked what they had been playing they explained to me that they were just taking a little break and got under Ethan’s covers together to snuggle. Later the same day Misty and I were talking about what they’ll be like as teenagers, just as we have many times and we can picture the relationship they’ll have and the conversations that will evolve.

A phone call in the future:

Ethan: What are you doing tonight.

Kaiden: Nothing planned.

Ethan: I’ve got a date. You want to go out with us?

Kaiden: Sure, you know I need to check her out and give my approval before you can make her your girlfriend.

or this one:

Kaiden: You’re not going to believe this.

Ethan: What?

Kaiden: That dumb ass was cheating on me.

Ethan: You want me to beat his ass?

or even this:

Ethan: My parents are in Vegas. I’m having a party.

Kaiden: How can you be so dumb? You know damn well your mother told my mom. And you know how our moms always catch us at everything!

And even this scenario at Ethan’s first apartment:

Kaiden opens the door with her key at 6:30 after a night of partying with her girlfriends only to discover that Ethan’s got some skank in the bed with him that he picked up in Chichos the night before. Ethan tells the girl to get out, and Kaiden replaces her, but only to sleep her hangover away with her best friend.

We’ve got a lot of years ahead of us, but something tells me these two will always be as close as they are right now. Some friendships are forever. I just hope their spouses will be able to understand it.

Spring Break 2008

Yesterday Ethan and I spent the last day of Spring Break with Kaiden.  Since the temps were in the 80′s I decided that Slurpees and outdoor fun were the best way to celebrate the warmth and sunshine.  We started the day with an after Easter egg hunt, and followed it with a one mile hike to 7-11.   Slurpees are just better when you have to walk to 7-11 to get them.  On the walk home we detoured off the original path to hit a playground in another neighborhood, which made the walk home almost two miles.  Halfway home the little ones started getting tired, but they kept up the momentum.  Can I just mention how proud I was of my little troopers?  We got to see lots of interesting things during our walk.  A dead squirrel, a dead mouse, lots of different flowers which I taught them the names of and a friendly beagle.

Once back home we rested our feet and then headed out for some sidewalk art.  Always fun, and I taught them how to draw turtles and fish.  As the day started to come to an end we took another walk and played “Make Me A Super Model.”   I gave the kids several poses to copy and they worked out quite well.   For awhile.  Ethan finally got fed up and started the pout face.  At that point, we heard the beep of a car horn and Misty pulled up, ending our fun for the day.  Luckily, the kids begging and pleading talked her into staying for another thirty minutes.

The Strapper

No, it’s not what you’re thinking.  But it’s not the product that’s important, it’s the lovely youtube marketing video.  You can learn more about The Strapper here.  But in the meantime, watch the youtube promotion.  Don’t you just love the belly rubber in the pink and the mother/daughter arm rubbing?

Vegas Trip – March 2008

The return from Vegas. It’s one of those things that takes a few days to get used to it. Certainly an adjustment, and not just the time change. It never fails. Once home, I feel a slight let down. Until I start planning some other trip. We decided that we will take a break from Vegas for a couple of years. As much as we love it, there are too many other places to see. And we’ll definitely make it a summer thing next time. The pools are great places to hang during the day, and especially a great way to recover from a long night.

It was a special treat getting to go with Misty and Shelly. We had great fun roaming up and down the strip, and all over Fremont Street. It was nice to meet the fellow bloggers who made it to Blogasm 2008. Dinner with Atomic Bombshell and Jordan was phenomenal. Such a great couple, and fun conversation.

I hope someone starts planning a Blogasm 2009 soon so more people can make plans to attend. I’d love to try something on the east coast this time. New York City would be perfect.

Happy American Easter!

We do our big celebration for Greek Easter which is on April 27th this year.

Of course, we still have to do egg coloring, an egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny!

A conversation with Ethan

Ethan:  Can you believe I got a check minus on my calendar today?

Me:  You shouldn’t have been goofing off with your friends during class.

Ethan:  And you know what else?  She wrote talking, talking on it.

Me:  Ooooh, you’re in trouble now.

Ethan:  What is that?  Talking, talking.  That doesn’t mean anything.

Me: Yes, it does.  It means you were talking.

Ethan:  Doesn’t she realize that talking is my talent?

It’s true though.  I guess it is a talent when you’re so good at it that she has to write it twice.

The tooth is OUT!

Ethan asked me to check it out just before bed tonight.  I grabbed it between my two fingers, and it fell out.  Without even having to wiggle it!  Good thing I did, otherwise he’d have ended up swallowing it in his sleep.
